The 12th Annual "Diamonds in the Rough" Golf Tournament

The 12th Annual “Diamonds in the Rough” Golf Tournament will be held at the University Golf Club with a goal of raising $150,000 to support orphans and vulnerable children in Namibia.  The funds will go towards building and supporting Village Care Points for these marginalized children providing them with food, pre-school and non-formal educational activities, psychosocial counseling support and opportunities for recreation and play.

Also, for your viewing pleasure, Uxbridge’s very first Tent Pegging completion, presented by Mr Akaash Maharaj. Tent pegging is an ancient sport that emerged out of training exercises to develop military cavaliers, prowess edged weapons; tent pegging is to the cavalry officer as jousting was to the medieval knight. TORONTO - In Children and AIDS: A Stocktaking, released today, UNICEF reports that there are positive signs of progress and momentum in the global response to children and AIDS and indicates that some countries have achieved breakthroughs, particularly in preventing HIV transmission from mothers to children and in providing treatment for children living with HIV/AIDS. While the report demonstrates positive momentum, it also underlines the great degree to which the children in the path of the AIDS pandemic continue to be vulnerable to illness, death, poverty and loss of opportunity.

MONTREAL - On the eve of the XVI International AIDS Conference, UNICEF Canada is very pleased to announce the appointment of Rwandan-born singer Corneille as its National Ambassador, to highlight and support UNICEF’s global campaign, Unite for children. Unite against AIDS. In his first act as Ambassador, Corneille has just completed his initial field mission. He visited Malawi to see what measures have been instituted by UNICEF and its partners to combat HIV/AIDS particularly among children.
