Kiwanis

The Eastern Canada and Caribbean District of Kiwanis has partnered with UNICEF Canada to raise funds in support of the Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign. Over the next 3 years, the EC&C will be raising funds to support children and their families affected by HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean.

The Kiwanis Clubs in the District of Eastern Canada and the Caribbean have set a goal to raise $1,000,000.00 (CDN) over three years, through their various fundraising activities. Funds raised will support the Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and also Guyana.

There are currently up to 230,000 people living with HIV in the Caribbean. In 2007 alone an estimated 17,000 people became newly infected and 11,000 people died of the disease making it one of the leading causes of death among adults. Estimated national HIV prevalence rates have reached epidemic proportions. Higher prevalence rates are found only in sub-Saharan Africa, making the Caribbean the second-most affected region in the world.
